Final Project Portfolio

Overview

For this project, we had to create an 8 minute presentation showcasing our final projects. This means that we would go back and edit or change any projects that we thought could use some polishing up. I did this project for MAC Cosmetics with two fictitious companies: MAC Skincare and MAC Hair Salon.

Process

I used powerpoint presentation to create this presentation. I tried to keep my style guide theme consistent here. I also created a slide with a new logo that I created for the overall company because I didn’t like my previously used logos. After making all the needed changes to each individual project, I went ahead and added the projects into the presentation. I started off by creating a project presentation outline which is shown below.

Critique Process

I talked to my WhatsApp group classmates who are Zantoza and Riad. They suggested that I keep my text consistent with the theme and keep it the same teal colour because at first, I had it white. Then they told me to change my bullet points for the agenda to icons that are relevant to my company. This feedback was useful as it created a sense of flow between my slides.

12C Newsletter Project

Overview

For this project, I had to create a informational newsletter for a company. I decided to do it for a fictitious company which is called MAC Hair Salon. The goal for this project was to create a two page newsletter that would then be printed duplex.

Process

After a class discussion on different layouts for the newsletter along with different design elements, I created a sample sketch. In this sketch, I tried to layout the main headings and text that I would create in powerpoint to make my final newsletter. I used the shapes tool a lot to create different shapes as well as formatting pictures in there. I looked up other sample newsletters for a hair salon or cosmetic company for guidance. I also created a new colour scheme for this project because it wasn’t the same company for my style guide. I chose to choose colours like grey, black and gold to create an elegant vibe. This would be a monochromic scheme for gold.

Critique Process

Through Whatsapp group chat, I was able to get feedback from Riad and Zantoza regarding my newsletter. They suggested that I rearrange my text layout for the body to make it more spaced out and not just one big paragraph. They also suggested that I make my title for Introducing smaller so it doesn’t look the same as my logo.

11C COMPANY HOMEPAGE PROJECT

OVERVIEW

For this project I was required to create a homepage layout for MAC Cosmetics. This is a parent company for my fictitious brands like MAC SkinCare and MAC Hair Salon. The homepage should establish what the company sells and have everything easily readable.

PROCESS

I started out by sketching my layout on a blank piece of paper. I tried to keep it as simple as possible since the whole theme of this page was to keep it sleek and clean. The promotional piece on the layout was to move like as an effect. The colour scheme was monochromatic for teal as well as using a hint of nude colour to match the skin of the lipstick picture. I wanted to use white and black as well since it would create more white space and a elegant effect. I also wanted to include three big sub headings that would lead to a new page with smaller headings under that topic. For example, ABOUT would lead to Company Story, How we started, What we do, etc. Below is my sketch for this layout:

Then I used Microsoft Word to lay out my wire frame/shape map for the webpage design by using text boxes to create the rectangle shapes. This step allowed me to have a guide to follow when I created the homepage.

CRITIQUE PROCESS

I reached out to my Whatsapp feedback group for my layout design to see what feedback I could get. I got feedback from Michael in my group to change the best sellers title to the top of the products instead of being below. I got feedback from Riad and Supreet saying that my design was clean and simple like the branding.

Font Family Used

Helevitca and Georgia.

Colour Scheme

Used Monochromatic: Teal.

10C Company Video

Overview

In the business world, you need to make sure you stand out and create unique marketing content. For this project, I created a 90 second marketing video on MAC Cosmetic’s Skincare line (fictitious). I wanted to show how this brand can be used for anyone regardless of their gender, race or colour. This is a promotional video to help people gain awareness of their product line and what is does.

Project

Process

The first thing I did was to create a company video plan. I listed out what the message was going to be, how I was going to showcase it, what tools I would need, what my stills and video shots were going to look like. Then I tried to sketch out a rough idea of what my video would look like. I actually didn’t like my first video concept idea so did another one and stuck with it.

Here is the Company Plan and Storyboard I created prior to shooting and putting together my video.

Next, I started to film and record my video. I looked for stock videos online that complimented my video. I looked for high quality still pictures that may fit it. I wanted to also add slow motion videos that I recorded myself. Luckily, my brother volunteered to be a part of it and I was able to get shooting. I included a variety of different pieces of content so my video was actually longer at first so I had to shorten it.

Critique

I sent my video to my classmates via whatsapp group chat. I was able to get feedback from Michael, Riad and Supreet. I wasn’t able to get feedback from Cameron. They all thought that I could change the colours of the font to make it more consistent. They thought some of the slow motion videos were too long so to shorten those parts. Also to change the music to something maybe more calming and peaceful when I was showing the ingredients of the products. I will be applying these recommendations to my final piece.

5C Photography Project

Overview
For this project, I needed to select 3-4 pictures that I captured and display my photography skills with it. It also required me to showcase my basic Adobe Lightroom skills to edit these pictures. The categories for these pictures include 3-4 pictures each of people, places and things. I took these pictures all from different locations over the weekend. I focused on keeping my pictures with bright colours and clarity.

People 1
People 2
People 3
Place 1
Place 2
Place 3: Wedding Reception Venue
Thing 1: Dog Toy
Thing 2: Plant
Thing 3: Shoe

Process
For these pictures, I used my iPhone 8 camera and took these pictures during the daytime for more natural lighting than flash usage. For the editing, I used a lot of the brightening and colour features to bring out the focus in the pictures. This was all done on Lightroom. I tried to use carpet pieces as some of the background for the pictures to bring out the point of focus.

Critique
I used the people who I met up with during the weekend to take pictures. Luckily, I went to a birthday party so there was lots of people to choose from. I wasn’t however able to use the copyright function on Lightroom since I have the free trial. They did give me feedback to stand very still to give the pictures more clarity and to shoot from different angles.
