8C Company Flag

Overview

For this project, we needed to create a new company flag that is consistent with the style guide used for our previous project. It needs to be simple and connect with the company. I chose to do it for MAC Cosmetics (Parent).

Process

I used my style guide to choose the colours for my flag. I wanted to create a visual that stood out and popped. I sketched out a bunch of flags and got feedback on the one’s that my classmates liked best. It is a transition to take a sketch and bring it to life. I tried to find the flag that looked the best when I created it digitally. Here are some of the sketches I chose and the symbols that I created as well.

I wanted to use lips as the main image because this company is known for their wide collection of popular lipsticks. I kept consistent by using a teal colour which is part of my colour scheme.

Critique

I got feedback from Renee, Riad and Zantoza for these flags. A lot of my team members liked the outline of the circle around the lipstick but thought the lipstick symbol had too much going on. So I decided to combine the symbol that everyone liked with the flag layout design everyone liked and combine it into one design. I also right aligned it because when a flag is hung the bar is on the left side and the side that sways is the right side. I kept consistent with the original branding by keeping the black colour which everyone said helped create contrast to the logo.
